Pantera

Pantera is a sailing yacht of the type Puma 37, built in 1980 at the Nao-Glass wharf in Barcelona, Spain. The Puma 37 was designed by Angus Primrose and has a strong resemblance to the Moody sailing yachts built in England (and designed by Primrose and his successor Bill Dixon). In particular, the resemblance wit the Moody 37 (and 376) that was released some years later is remarkable. Many people confuse the Pantera for a Moody. The yacht broker that had our boat in his portfolio even went as far as claiming that the hull of the Pantera was built in England and shipped to Spain to be finished. Complete nonsense, but then again, the broker at hand had a habit of stating things full of bullshit….

The Pantera is characterized by lots of inner space (and headroom!) combined with a moderate sail plan. Primrose himself by the way, was lost at sea in 1980 during a storm in a sailing race that he participated in on a Moody 33 designed by himself, the Demon of Hamble. When we bought our boat, it was called the “Stormvogel” (“Petrel”). A bit of a thirteen to the dozen name so that had to change. In the end, we opted for Pantera, a Catalan variation on Puma (so no, it has nothing to do with the music band Pantera).
